What does "exact" mean?

We matched your item to a specific name-brand product and a recent shelf price for it, adjusted for size, and subtracted what you paid. The line tells you what it was compared with and when.

It is the usual shelf price. If the name brand was on sale that week, or you had a coupon for it, you would have paid less, and the real saving is smaller.

What is an estimate?

We had no name-brand match for that item, so the figure is about what a name brand usually costs more for that kind of product. Estimates carry a dashed box and the ≈ sign, and they are totaled apart from exact savings, so you can always tell how firm a number is.

Savings can be exact today at two grocery chains in St. Louis. At any other store, every saving is an estimate.

What is a "missed" saving?

A name-brand item that has a store-brand swap. The line shows what the swap would have saved you. It is never added to your total.

Why is there no saving on some items?

Fresh produce, meat, deli and bakery items are left out. There is no fair name-brand comparison for them. A name-brand item with no known store-brand swap shows nothing either.

The app read my receipt wrong.

Open the line and use the fix button. You can change how many you bought, pick a different product, say it is not a store brand, or stop the item being compared. It is a test, and finding these mistakes is the reason for it.

Why was my receipt rejected?

A photo is turned away when it is not a grocery receipt, when it is a duplicate of one you already scanned, or when it cannot be read: too dark, too blurred, or cut off. Lay the receipt flat in good light and take the photo straight on. Long receipts take two or three photos.

Photos of rejected, duplicate or unreadable receipts are kept for 30 days and then deleted.

What is the agreement the app asks for before my first receipt?

To read a receipt, the app sends its photos, and everything printed on them, to Anthropic, the company that makes the AI model Claude. Anthropic sends back a list of what it read. The app asks for your agreement before the first photo, and you can withdraw it in Settings at any time; the app then stops reading receipts until you agree again.

My receipt shows part of my card number. Is that kept?

We instruct the reader not to record card numbers or loyalty numbers, and we do not use them. The photo itself shows whatever your receipt shows. It is stored privately: in the app only you see it, and we look at a photo only if you ask for help with it, or to find out why a receipt was read wrongly.

My sign-in code has not arrived.

Check your spam folder. In the app, you can ask for a new code; a new code replaces the old one, and each code works for ten minutes. There is no password.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings, then "Delete account", and confirm. It is deleted right away. That removes your email address, your receipts and everything read from them, your photos, and the prices your receipts added to our price list.

If you no longer have the app, the account deletion page (draft) says how to ask.

How do I withdraw my application to the test?

Write to us at [email protected] from the address you applied with and say so; we delete the application, which holds the answers you gave on the form. To change an answer, write the same way.

If you apply again with the same email address, the first application stands and the new answers are not kept, so a corrected ZIP code or phone has to come to us by email.

Can I delete one receipt?

Yes. Open it in the app and delete it. Its photos, and the prices it added to our price list, go with it.

What does "you move it" mean?

The app shows what you saved. If you want to invest that amount, you move it yourself to an investment account you already have, in the investment company's own app or website. Egg Money does not hold, move or invest money, and it does not connect to your bank. We have no arrangement with any investment company.

Today the app shows the saving and moves no money. Helping you move it to an investment account is not built, and we are not promising when it will be.
