How it works

The Egg Money app's home screen, marked "Demo data": saved in October, $10.90 exact and about $1.12 estimated, kept as two separate totals.

You don't find extra money. You buy the store brand, as you already do.

Today
The app reads your receipt and shows what store brands saved you. No math.
Next, if the test goes well
It tells you what you saved, so you can move that amount to an investment account you already have. You decide how to invest it.

There's egg money on your receipt.

Your receipt says what you paid. It does not say what you avoided paying. Egg Money fills that in.

What Egg Money adds. Demo data.

Each saving is marked exact or estimated, and the two are never mixed. How a saving is worked out

Three steps, after you shop

  1. Photograph the receipt.

    Any grocery receipt. Savings at two chains in St. Louis can be exact; at other stores they are estimates.

  2. See each item.

    What each store-brand item saved you, and what it was compared with.

  3. Watch it add up.

    Your total for the month and for all time.

Where this stands

Today the app shows the saving and moves no money. Helping you move it to an investment account is not built, and we are not promising when it will be.

We hold no money and move none. We pick no investments and give no investment advice. We make no claim about what any investment will be worth.

St. Louis testers wanted

The test is free. It is for you if:

  • you live in the St. Louis area;
  • you do most of your household's grocery shopping;
  • you shop in store and take the paper receipt;
  • you have an iPhone (the first test is on iPhone only);
  • you are 18 or older.

With an Android phone you can still sign up: we will keep you on the list, and write to you if and when the app is ready for your phone.

Questions

Is this an investing app?
That is what we are building. It is not one yet. Today Egg Money only measures.
Where would the money go?
To an investment account you already have, and you would be the one to move it there. Nothing is connected today, and we have no arrangement with any investment company.
Does it connect to my bank account?
Not in this test. It reads a photo of your receipt and nothing else.
